Global Programs manages education abroad programs; hosts international students and scholars; and facilitates the University's many international partnerships around the world.
Our mandate is to vigorously promote Penn State's vision of becoming a truly global university -- the Global Penn State. Global Programs encourages all members of the Penn State community to incorporate global perspectives in their work, studies, and activities. Therefore, we offer a comprehensive range of international and intercultural educational opportunities for University faculty, staff, and students alike.
Global Programs is comprised of the Office of the Vice Provost and three directorates - Education Abroad (DEA), International Student & Scholar Advising (DISSA), and Global Operations and Intercultural Learning with the director of each reporting to the Vice Provost for Global Programs. The Vice Provost also oversees Faculty & Campus Engagement as well as initiatives such as the university's Strategic Partnerships. Together, we serve over 3,000 students who study abroad each year; more than 9,000 international students enrolled at Penn State; and the faculty who support them all. Message from the Vice Provost The Office of Global Programs is charged with furthering the global engagement goals of the university. We do this with nearly 100 full-time employees located at Penn State campuses across Pennsylvania. This office is a vibrant and exciting place to work for those interested in pursuing careers in international education. Our portfolio is vast; we lead the university’s strategic international partnership efforts, provide immigration advising services to Penn State’s international students and scholars, administer all of Penn State’s Education Abroad programs, and provide innovative leadership programs and services to international undergraduate students.
Robert G. Crane, Ph.D. is the interim Vice Provost for Global Programs at Penn State and Professor of Geography in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences. As interim Vice Provost, Dr. Crane provides leadership for all Penn State’s global engagements, including hosting thousands of international students from more than 140 countries, sending thousands of domestic students to more than 285 study abroad programs overseas, and building strategic partnerships with global institutions from around the world.
The last strategic planning cycle (2009-2014) launched the building of the Global Penn State - promoting global citizenship for our students and global leadership for the University in scholarship and international engagement.
